I think there is a fundamental question that arises whenever you go to purchase an object. Do you want the PC or the Mac, the manual or the automatic? Are you willing to learn something about the object you've worked hard to purchase, or are you buying it simply to fulfill a need.
Personally, I've always owned PCs and currently drive a manual, but I don't believe there's any reason to prefer one over the other, its just that - a preference. The reason people get all crazy about what to use comes from someone new, typically asking for advise on which is the better type to get.
I'd say when choosing what type of computer to buy, type of car to get etc, make your decision based on what you're going to do with it, not how you wish to appear. That said, here is my take on which you should buy based on what you're going to do with it.
Macintosh - Entry level home users, musicians, artists, people associated with professional artists or musicians etc
Windows - Entry level business people, business professionals, IT staff supporting the needs of a business community
Automatic - Point A to Point B drivers, people who believe the journey is not part of the experience
Manual - Cruising drivers, spontaneous people who have been known to get in the car and drive without any particular destination in mind
As you can see, it is easy to make a case for either side of these two arguments, so spend less time arguing and more time using the equipment that satisfies you the best.
